Description
Types of Brass Test Sieves
1. Coarse Sieves (4.75mm to 100mm) – Used for larger aggregates.
2. Fine Sieves (75µm to 4.75mm) – Used for sand, cement, and soil gradation.
3. Micro Sieves (Below 75µm) – Used in powder and chemical industries.
Common mesh sizes follow standards like IS:460, ASTM E11, and BS 410, with sizes ranging from 100mm (4 inches) to 38µm (No. 400 mesh).
Sieve Analysis Process
1. Stack the Sieves – Arrange sieves in descending order of size.
2. Weigh the Sample – A known weight of material is used.
3. Sieve Shaking – Manually or using a mechanical sieve shaker.
4. Weigh the Retained Particles – The amount of material left on each sieve is recorded.
5. Calculate Particle Distribution – Percentage of retained material is used for analysis.
Applications of Brass Test Sieves
• Construction Industry – Aggregate and sand grading for concrete mix design.
• Soil Testing – Classification in geotechnical engineering.
• Pharmaceutical & Food Industry – Powder consistency control.
• Mining & Metallurgy – Ore and mineral particle size analysis.
